Basic chemicals are used in water treatment and wastewater treatment by almost all industries including the chemical industry, power generation, food processing, electronics, steel industries and many more. They are important raw materials in the manufacture of fertilizers, pulp and paper, batteries, soaps and detergents.

Sulfuric acid is one of the basic chemicals locally manufactured for the last 40 years. While there used to be three manufacturing plants in Luzon, these aging plants had been retired and only one brand new plant for the production of 90,000 metric tons of sulfuric acid per year is in operation. This is owned by Chemphil and it employs state-of-the-art equipment from Monsanto Envirochem.
