The specialty chemical industry in the Philippines never had a clear birth date remaining 'infantile' during the 50's to the late 70's. The main players at the time were a few foreign multinationals mostly operating through local agents and some local formulators. Value added service was not emphasized, and it was hard to differentiate the players from one another.

The industry therefore, adopted the character of being commodity and the customers were unable to fully benefit from the chemicals that they were buying.

In the late 70s, new entrants to the industry introduced the concept of value-added service to the industry. Working closely with customers to solve their problems, "customer satisfaction" found new meaning as expectations went beyond mere supply of chemicals.

This lead to the launching of the specialty chemical industry to its rightful role in relation to the industries that it serves. Developing "business partnering relationships" with its customers, specialty chemical suppliers assumed important roles in making them more competitive by improving production efficiency and enhancing product quality.
