The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), otherwise known
as the Chemical Industries Association of the Philippines, was organized in Manila
in 1977 by a group of top executives of leading chemical companies.
They saw the need to get together to strengthen representations in government, international,
and private fora in promoting the chemical industry for the development of the
Philippines. |

SPIK started with 35 members; today, the association has 64 members

SPIK is not only concerned with activities to promote the chemical
industry within the country but with the ASEAN region as well. One of its first projects
was the organization of the ASEAN Chemical Industries Club (ASEAN-CIC), for the coordination of efforts by the chemical industry
in the region. It facilitates intra-ASEAN regional compilation and dissemination
of information of common concern, as well as the consultation and exchange of views between
and among the constituent members. The ASEAN-CIC serves as the sole ASEAN body from the
private sector, which deals with problems common to the ASEAN chemical companies. |
