SPIK would like to invite you to our 3rd GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING to be held on September 14, 2010 (Tuesday) 11AM at the Makati Sports Club, LP Leviste corner Gallardo Streets, Salcedo Village Makati City. (Please note that the time was moved from 11:30AM to 11AM).

We are honored to have MR. JESUS ARRANZA, Chairman of the Federation of Philippine Industries, Inc. – The Voice of Industry, who will speak on "Anti-Smuggling" and its benefits to the downstream industries.

We are also please to inform you that DOST Under-Secretary FORTUNATO T. DELA PEÑA will also join us, (topic to be announced).

Results of the 2010 SPIK Golf Tournament at Ayala Greenfield
The 2010 SPIK Golf Tournament joined by forty-seven (47) players from SPIK members and guests was conducted last July 29 at Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club, Calamba Laguna.

There was a tee-off ceremony at 8AM led by SPIK President Roberto Batungbacal (Dow Chemical), together with Dir. Betbet Vidanes (ZI-TECHASIA) and Mr. Tonoki (PRII). After the tournament was the awarding of raffle prizes for the attendees and certificates for the sponsors followed by the awarding of trophies and gift checks for the winners. The winners were:

Boysen’s Adopt-A-School Project

Boysen’s Adopt-A-School Project was developed as the company’s symbolic contribution to the development of the country’s educational system. The project is considered as Boysen’s contribution to STEP UP, PBSP’s flagship program in Luzon. STEP UP or the Strategic Private Sector Partnerships for Urban Poverty Reduction is implemented through PBSP’s Luzon Regional Operations in 26 communities in 8 cities of the NCR. Through the STEP UP program, housing projects, roads and drainage, basic social services such as potable water and school buildings have been provided to benefit the target urban poor communities.

Last July 24, 2010, the Sytengco Group of Companies together with the Philippine Cancer Society Inc. conducted a medical check-up and seminar held on our main Office at Resthaven. Part of the check-up included Breast Examination and Pap Smear for the Female, and Prostate Examination for our Male Employees. The Sytengco Group of Companies is one with the Philippine Cancer Society Inc. in fighting cancer.

DuPont provides better roads for Philippine farmers


Today, the 150 potatoes and cabbage farmers of Benguet, Philippines, no longer worry about transport costs. The credit goes to the DuPont construction of a 340-meter tire-path that connects the 1000-hectare vegetable production area to the local market. The farmers had long been complaining that rising transport costs due to difficult road conditions ate up profits.

Dow Philippines sponsors potable water school project


Dow Philippines sponsors potable water school project

Dow Philippines has long been a contributor of education projects and now aims to assist in improving the water system in CAA National High School, situated 500 meters away from the Las Pinas plant. A water treatment system was installed, in partnership with the Department of Education’s “Brigada-Eskwela” campaign and with the help of Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP). This system will benefit 3,000 high school students. It was turned-over last June 23, 2010 to the school by Dow Philippines Country Manager/SPIK President Bobby Batungbacal and PBSP Assistant Director Rene Fortuno to the School Division Superintendent Norma Adamos.

Chemical Safety and Security Workshop and SPIK 8th Responsible Care Day
The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK)*, conducted a Chemical Safety and Security Workshop and 8th Responsible Care Day Event on July 22-23, 2010 at the New World Hotel, Makati City. There were forum lectures on principles of chemical security, security vulnerability, process safety management risk assessment, hazard & operability studies, the role of Responsible Care in emergency preparedness and chemical transportation. Experts from the US State Department's Chemical Security Engagement Program, Sandia National Laboratories and Acutech are Dr. Brent Burdick, Ms. Linda Stiles and Mr. Michael Snakard. This was followed by a lecture on Sustainability by Dennis Chung from Dow Chemical Pacific Limited and best practices sharing on process safety and product stewardship by the SPIK RC-practicing companies, led by Nestor Evaristo of Petron Corporation and Tess Corpuz from 3M Philippines, Inc..

The event was co-sponsored by the US State Department in connection to their Chemical Safety and Security Conference last July 19-21.
